More than 44,000 of the cars still in use in New Zealand were on the road before 1939 and 18,476 of them have been running up mileage since before 1938. They are some of the 880,000 vehicles which the New Zealand Motor Trade Year Book, 1966, says are running in New Zealand today. The figures showed that more than half the vehicles in New Zealand are more than eight years old. However, last year the value of imported vehicles totalled a record £31.4 million, or 8.79 per cent of the total imports.
