Meat Board Head

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 30. The chairman of the Meat Board (Sir John Ormond) said tonight that he disagreed that higher freight rates were inevitable for New Zealand refrigerated cargo to Manila, Hong Kong, and

Japan. “We must have a unit load,” said Sir John Ormond. “Here is our opportunity to grasp the nettle and produce a unit load, whether the mutton goes in a basket, or in a container, or any other unitloading way. “I will want to know from the shipowners what reduction we shall then get. Like the Railways Department, we believe there is much we can do ourselves. We are going through a revolution in transport and handling of our meat. I expect New Zealand to get the full advantage from new efficiencies we are introducing. (Increase, Page 1)
