“LIVE” FROM AUSTRALIA.—This photograph, taken from a British television screen, was received “live” from Australia and televised by the British Broadcasting Corporation after engineers had achieved the first link-up by way of the satellite, Intelsat, in orbit over the Indian Ocean. Picture reception between Caernarvon, New South Wales, and Britain during the 15-minute link was splendid, and the sound, brought by land-line and radio through America, was very clear. There was one two-minute break in picture transmission, but otherwise the link was successful. The pictures on British television screens had come about 50,000 miles.
