FACTORY RAZED
Dog Initiates Alarm Call
(N.Z. Press Association)
AUCKLAND, Nov. 29.
Fire destroyed the upholstery factory of Morgan Bros, in Archers road, Takapuna, early this morning. The Chief Fire Officer of the North Shore Fire Board, Mr A. Walker, said it was one of the biggest fires to have occurred in his area.
The brigade was called at 2.41 p.m. A spaniel owned by Mr and Mrs N. O’Brian, who live near the factory, pushed open their bedroom door and woke them with its barking. When they got up they saw the back of the factory in flames and rang the brigade. The fire was brought under control by 4 a.m., but by then the factory was gutted. The destruction of the plant will put about 100 employees out of work. An estimate of the cost of the damage was not available tonight.
