Meeting Of Creditors

An arm injury which kept him from work for 13 months was the main reason for his unsecured debts of £1530, Lawrence Edward MacFarlane, a salesman, of Edna place, said yesterday at a meeting of creditors in the office of the Official Assignee (Mr T. A. F. Withers).

He was adjudged a bankrupt on November 16. He had received some compensation for the arm injury, but a claim which he had filed was not due till the end of next year, he said. On the advice of his solicitor he had filed his notice of bankruptcy he said.

Another illness which kept him from work for three months while he was in Hawke’s Bay three yers ago had put him in debt. He had never been able to get ahead since, he said. He had a good job in Christchurch now and was earning £l6 a week plus commission. Last week his commission amounted to £250. He hoped to pay off his debts in three years.
