ETERNAL FRIENDS

China’s friendship with Albania is eternal and indestructible, the Communist Party leader, Mao Tse-tung, has assured its tiny ally in East Europe, Peking Radio reported today. In a message marking the 22nd anniversary of its “liberation,” Mao described Albania as a powerful bastion against imperialism and modern revisionism, and said its people had cemented with China a profound revolutionary friendship. The message was addressed to Mr Enver Hoxha. First Secretary of the Albanian Communist Party, who has accused the Soviet Union of plotting with the United States to destroy the Warsaw Pact and N.A.T.O. In an attempt to encircle China. Peking held a rally of more than 1000—including Red Guards—to mark the Albanian anniversary yesterday, the radio reported.
At one point the crowd rose to its feet, waved red-covered copies of “Quotations from Chairman Mao Tse-tung,” and shouted: "Long live Enver Hoxha.”
