MONTREAL, November 29.
Mechanics ended a two-week strike against Air Canada yesterday after obtaining a 20 per cent wage increase, more holidays and other fringe benefits.
Their strike, which started on November 14, had grounded Air Canada’s entire fleet of 86 aircraft. The first flight to leave Montreal took off for Quebec city yesterday morning with 19 passengers aboard. Under a new agreement, the 5200 mechanics will receive a wage increase covering 26 months, together with fringe benefits amounting to an increase of another 7 per cent, including more holidays.
Union members ratified the agreement reached by their leaders in a vote taken over the week-end.
