FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—An anti-cyclone is moving eastwards across the north Tasman Sea. A deepening depression lies south of the Tasman Sea with a frontal zone approaching New Zealand from the west. Forecast;
Canterbury.—Moderate north-easterlies at times about the coast; otherwise north-westerlies becoming strong in exposed places; rain at times in the Alps; elsewhere partly cloudy with isolated showers; mild. Outlook: mainly fair. Marlborough and Nelson.—North-west winds, strong near Cook Strait and fresh in other exposed areas; cloudy and mild with scattered rain developing in the Nelson district in the middle of the day and spreading to Marlborough. Outlook; showery at times in the west; partly cloudy elsewhere.
Buller and Westland.—Moderate northerlies at first w'ith a period of rain; fresh westerlies developing during the day with showers and fair periods; moderate temperatures. Outlook! showers. CHRISTCHURCH READINGS
