LOANS FOR HOUSES

Lincoln Staff Arrangements

As the result of a letter from the Lincoln College branch of the Association of University Teachers the Lincoln College Council agreed to ask the University Grant Committee to extend all staff the 90 per cent loan guarantee with no time limit on houses, which is available to staff recruited overseas.

The council also agreed to pay for two weeks’ motel accommodation for a new appointee and his family until he found alternative housing, and to insert two advertisements for housing in the local newspapers so that he has leads to follow, with special consideration for overseas applicants. In its letter, the association said it was greatly concerned with the inadequate initial housing arrangements for new staff arriving at the college. There had been several instances of new appointees arriving with no knowledge of the region, no friends to assist them and no place arranged for them in which to live.
