Candles For The Table

Hostesses anxious to

impress their dinner guests are keeping busy a new factory on the outskirts of Glasgow, Scotland. From special machinery comes a continuous shower of coloured and perfumed wax granules which provide what must be one of the cheapest, yet most attractive, do-it-yourself

table decorations All the hostess has to do is put a wick and some of the granules into a wine glass or other decorative container and she has both decoration and illumination for her table. The granules are produced in seven different colours—each with a different delicate perfume—complete with wick and wick holder. A full pack will give about 24 hours continuous burning—much more than an ordinary candle at the same price—but, as only the granules next to the wick melt, it is possible to get up to 20 dinner parties from a pack as the granules can be used over and over again. And there is no problem of cleaning melted wax from the container. Popular Ideas

Popular ideas at the moment are to put the granules in a shallow boat-shaped container with several short pieces of wick, or to put layers of different colours into a tall glass. Even a half orange with the fruit scraped out has been used successfully. Instant candle wax, as the

manufactuers call it, is already selling well not only in Britain but in other countries. The attractive boxes are produced in seven different languages, and for two big buyers in Denmark and Germany the company has obtained and packed boxes to the customers’ specifications.
