Minister’s View

Telephoned by “The Press” at his home in In-

vercargill last evening the Minister of Justice (Mr Hanan) said he was not aware that a loophole in the law had been discovered which permitted chartered clubs to serve

drinks on the afternoon of General Election polling days while hotels and licensed restaurants

were still required to stop selling drinks.

After a reporter had explained the situation, Mr Hanan said: “1 am inclined to think that uniformity is desirable. I am also inclined to think that the restriction is out of tune with the times.

“I shall certainly be looking into the law as it stands at present on the question.”
