Anzac Day Racing

(N Z. Press Association)

HAMILTON.

If the New Zealand Racing Conference approves the Waipa Racing Club will hold a race meeting at Te Awamutu next Anzac Day. The proposal has the sanction of the Waikato district committee.

Recent legislation permits the holding of sports meetings on Anzac Day, but these must not start before 1 p.m. If the New Zealand Racing Conference acceeds

to Te Awamutu’s request, the meeting would begin at 1.30 p.m. This would allow half an hour’s oncourse betting time. The secretary of the W’aipa Racing Club, Mr M. W. C. Macky, said that it would probably be necessary to stage a seven-race programme. Off-course betting would provide no problem because the T.A.B. would be open for business on the Saturday and Monday proceeding Anzac Day, which falls next year on Tuesday, April 25.
