Two adults and two children were killed and 27 persons injured when a cookinggas cylinder was thrown into a crowd watching a burning building in Noumea, New Caledonia. The victims, all from the Pacific Wallis Island, were watching a blaze in their living quarters at the Societe Nickel smelting plant when the portable cylinder was thrown among them and exploded, spewing flaming gas.
