SURFING TRIALS
Ward Added To List
(From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON.
The South Brighton club junior member, B. Ward, is one of six surfers added to the list of national trialists by the selectors in Wellington last evening. The trials, to decide the New Zealand team of eight seniors and two juniors to compete against Australia on January 21, will be held at Titahi Bay, Wellington, on December 3 and 4. The additions to the original list, which was named after the national surf lifesaving championships at Oakura (Taranaki) last March are: Ward, the Empire Games 220 yd butterfly gold medallist, D. F. Gerrard (Dunedin); G. Dempsey, a junior (Taranaki); D. Henderson (Wellington); R. Gough (Wellington); and a board exponent, A. Griffin (Wellington).
Canadian May Run In N.Z. (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. The Olympic 800 metres silver medallist, W Crothers, has written to the Auckland Athletic Centre offering to run in New Zealand in late February or early March. Crothers, a Canadian, finished second to P. G. Snell in Tokyo, breaking the Olympic record in Imin 45.65ec.
