No Bid By The ‘Guardian’

One of Britain’s quality morning newspapers, the “Guardian” formerly the “Manchester Guardian”—has decided not to make a counter bid for “The Times.” A spokesman for the “Guardian" said the company had been considering an offer for the newspaper and whether or not to take part in a consortium which also intended to make a bid. “It has decided that neither of these proposals is in the interests of the public,” the spokesman said.
