50 BED HOME FOR THE AGED

An example of the benevolent aims of the Manchester United Friendly Society is the 50-bed home for the aged which is to be built in Lyttelton street, Spreydon.

Under the name of “George Manning House,” this sorely needed addition to the overtaxed existing homes for the aged is being provided, with the aid of Government sub-

i sidy, by the North Canterbury

District of the Manchester Unity Friendly Society in conjunction with the Christchurch Aged People’s Welfare Council and the Christchurch South Rotary Club. The deed setting up the trust has been executed and approved by the Health Department and is enthusiastically supported by Christchurch members of both Parliamentary parties. Subject to approval by the Health Department, the home will comprise 30 residential rooms and 20 beds for the infirm requiring nursing care.
