Notifiable disease cases of all kinds increased by 130 in the four weeks ended October 30, compared with the previous four-weekly period, reported the research committee of the Canterbury faculty of the College of General Practitioners. There were increases in gastro-enteritis, chickenpox, mumps and rubella. Seventysix returns were received, one more than in the previous period. Mild whooping cough in children who had been given a full course of injections was noted by city doctors during the latter four-weekly period. The children had harsh coughs several weeks, but little sputum, no vomiting and they were well between paroxysms.
