RACING Manners Likely At Invercargill

"The Press" Special Sereice INVERCARGILL. Naratam, Manners, Petite Amie and Autobank, all firstday winners, promise to give repeat performances on the second day of the Southland Racing Club’s spring meeting at Invercargill today.

Manners strikes a weaker field in the Medallist Handicap than when he won on the first day. The fresh runners. Middy and Bellarook, look the best prospects in the second leg, the Agfa Rapid Handicap. Unsettled weather has continued with rain. The track will be easier than on Saturday. Middy, a last start fourth in the Churchill Stakes at the New Zealand Cup meeting, should return to winning form in the Agfa Rapid sprint, the second leg of the double. In the Churchill Stakes at Riccarton Middy finished fast for fourth behind the class three-year-old, Game, with Palisade and Feiramor filling the placings. It was a highly creditable effort because Middy was slow away and Game ran the mile in Imin 36sec, the last half in 46 3-ssec. Middy is the top-weight with 9-5, but with a full apprentice allowance to be claimed for him he will come down to a handy 8-12. A star sprinter last season when he set a track record for seven furlongs at Riccarton, Middy has had only four starts in his latest campaign and his most recent run indicates that he is ready to return to his best form. Bellarook did not start on Saturday but there was nothing wrong with him. The veteran Gore sprinter will be ridden by J. R. Dowling and in spite of his Riccarton failures he looks one of the few in the field to have much chance with Middy. Autobank, which has won three of his last five starts, looks capable of extending bis record against the middle distance hacks in the Tuatapere Handicap. It was a strong run which landed him a clear-cut winner the first day. Arabian Light, Etassem and Darnburgh, all of which have

alternative engagements, will start in the Pukemaori Hurdles. His trainer, E. J. Ellis, said yesterday that Soncerai would start in both the Milford and the Oreti Handicaps.
