BANKRUPT ‘ABROAD’

A former British Army private who amassed a fortune selling surplus Army equipment has fled from Britain leaving debts estimated at £3 million and no known assets, it was said in the Bankruptcy Court in London today. He is Francis Richard Cradock, described as a company director and financier. A court official said Mr Cradock was believed to be abroad. Mr Cradock, who is in his early 40s, left school at 14, and after serving in the Second World War built up a big business buying and selling Army surplus equipment. He once described himself as the biggest man in the scrap business in Europe.
