The Clothing and Bespoke Tailoring Apprenticeship Committee recently decided “to give consideration to amending the apprenticeship order to provide for female apprentices.” “It was agreed that females could be employed in the cutting and trimming branch and it was decided to leave individual applications to local committees for consideration,” said the Commissioner of Apprenticeship (Mr R. C. Thornton) today. “If a local committee approved, it would recommend an application to the Court of Arbitration, which could approve of such a contract under the Apprentices Act”
