CARPENTER DISMISSED
Refused Banned Job The secretary of the Canterbury Carpenters’ Union (Mr R. J. Pitcairn) said that a carpenter had been dismissed yesterday because he refused to work on a job declared “black” by the union. The job was the Blenheim road contract of the Fletcher Construction Company at the International Harvester Company site. Mr Pitcairn said that the carpenter had been directed to the Blenheim road job. When the carpenter arrived at the job and found it was “black” he went back to the firm’s yard, where he was instantly dismissed. Mr Pitcairn said .that the union would consider what further action was necessary.
