REMOVAL OF POND SAND

Royalty Will Be Sought An offer by the Isaac Construction Company to remove, free of cost, surplus sand in the sewerage treatment ponds at Bromley was not accepted by the Christchurch Drainage Board last night. The board decided to call tenders for the removal of sand from one of the ponds. The company told the board that it had a 12-acre subdivision in Hargood street which needed about 50.000 cubic yards of filling, and the sand would be suitable. The chief engineer (Mr P J. McWilliam) said the board wanted to buy adjacent land for sludge disposal, and this, with the cost of develonment. would involve about £35.000 In view of this, the board should agree to the removal of sand at a reasonable royalty. |
