Air Cover Lack Annoys Jordan
(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) AMMAN, November 22. The Prime Minister of Jordan, Mr Wash Tell, criticised the Cairo-based Unified Arab Command and the United Arab Republic yesterday for not providing air cover during fighting between Jordanian and Israeli forces 10 days ago.
Fighting broke out between the two sides on November 13 when Israeli forces attacked the Jordanian village of Samon in what the Israeli Government claims was a reprisal raid. Jordan has complained to the Security Council about the incident, accusing Israel of aggression. Addressing a press conference in Auiman, Mr Tell
said the Israeli attack was a test for the Unified Arab Command and the military principle that the armistice lines are a single line and that any attack on any part of it is an attack on the other parts. He added: “The main problem we faced during the aggression was the air cover, which the Unified Arab Command and the United Arab Republic should have provided, particularly as the air cover south of Jerusalem is the responsibility of the U.A.R. according to agreed plans.”
