TfOR some years now the Otago University, Massey University and Lincoln College Rugby Clubs have attempted to restrict the playing of graduates in New Zealand Universities Rugby teams.

They made strong representations this year but their attempts failed and the New Zealand Universities team to tour Japan next year includes a fair sprinkling of graduates: and surprisingly enough some of them from Lincoln College, Otago and Massey. At a recent meeting of the New Zealand Universities Sports Union, Otago University put forward a proposal which it felt might force the hand of the New Zealand Universities Rugby Council but it backfired rather badly. Otago wanted the university sports union to restrict the council’s use of the New Zealand University crest for its blues. However, it was found that the New Zealand University crest is registered in the name of the Rugby council so that it could, if it wished, stop all other sports from using it
