K. A. BROWN RETURNS TO CYCLING

rpHIS year’s track cycling 1 meetings at English Park, which already promises to be of considerable interest, will be given an even greater boost by the fact that K. A. Brown is to ride seriously and regularly.

Brown, before last track season one of New Zealand’s best performed and top cash riders on track or road, said recently that he was keen to do well this season although he has only just started his training programme. He is particularly interested in the “Star Cup on Wheels,” a mile race in Dunedin and New Zealand’s richest track race. Brown has twice won this event.

Another top cash track rider yet to reach full fitness is the former Australian, A. O’Hagan. O Hagan last year was probably the fastest finisher, cash or amateur, at English Park and he only failed by a whisker to topple W. D. Dalton when the latter rode at Christchurch. K. R. Jeffery is a reliable track rider and good sprinter and with G. 0. Moore showing useful form for so early in the season, some very interesting tussles could develop.

Further down the scale, some young amateurs have been bringing interest to the racing with their performances. A. A. Paviell, who had such a notable career as a novice, has already started moving back

on the marks In handicap races and while not likely to threaten the top seniors yet, Is sure to return some impressive performances. Another young rider to make his mark in his first night of competition was R. A. B. McKee. McKee not only won a race and took a placing or two but also unleashed a telling sprint to

edge out the moreexperienced P. Creighton in a half-mile heat. There is interest, too, in the novice ranks where P. D. Brydon appears to be set for domination in sprints to the same degree as Paviell was last year. However, the provincial road champion, J. W. Beresford, caused some last Wednesday evening with his aggressive breakaways and pursuittype riding in the manner of T. Tabak.
