Three-year-olds To Clash Again

“The Pre**" Special Service

AUCKLAND.

The fine three-year-olds, Barelian from Te Awamutu and Star Belle from Takanini, will clash for the second time this season in the Waikato Guineas at Te Rapa on Friday.

The first time Barelian and Star Belle met was in the Great Northern Guineas, a

mile, at Ellerslie. Star Belle scored decisively and Bare! lan, with the soft ground against him, finished sixth. The trainer, W. Sanders, said he had not intended to run Barelian at Te Rapa but had now decided to try the gelding over the mile and a quarter.

“I am fairly certain he will [run the distance,’* said Sanders. “His early speed will I help him and he carries 'weight so well.” Sanders said Barelian had done very well since his record gallop in the Avondale [Guineas a fortnight ago. “My main worry will be getting the condition off him for Friday.” | Barellau has had 11 starts I this season for eight firsts and two minor placings. Before the Avondale Guineas he gave powerful displays of galloping over six furlongs at Ellerslie and seven furlongs at Tauranga against the best sprinters. Star Belle, a handsome filly by Summertime from Belle Rosa, had had four wins in five starts this season. Her failure was over six furlongs at Riccarton just before she won the New Zealand Oaks. Star Belle has pleased her trainer, I. J. Tucker, by thriving since she returned from Riccarton. No rider has yet been engaged for her. Barelian will be ridden as usual by J. S. Humphries. Star Belle has been ridden lately by R. J. Skelton, who has taken the mount on Foxvale for Friday’s Guineas. Although he has not the record of Star Belle or Barelian, Foxvale seems certain to run well on Friday. He looks a stayer, thoroughly prepared for a fast mile and a quarter.
