AUCKLAND, November 21.
Auckland University will introduce regulations next year to govern the presence of officers of the Security Service at the university 7 .
I he University Council decided today 7 after considerable debate, that two recommendations made by Sir Douglas Hutchison, the commission of inquiry into the Godfrey case, should be incorporated into the university disciplinary regulations.
They are:
(1) That no member of the SecurityService enrolled as a student at the universityshould carry out any inquiries into securitymatters within the precincts of the university, and
(2) That the proposed attendance of any member of the Security Service at the university should be discussed between the Security Service and the university authorities before his enrolment.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university. Mr K J. Maidment, said the bead of the Security Service. Brigadier H. E. Gilbert, had indicated that both recommendations would be observed by the service in the future. Another recommendation
from the University Senate, acting on the advice of the university solicitors, that each member of the Security Service who wished to enrol at the university should sign an acknowledgement undertaking that he would not, while enrolled as a student, carry out inquiries into security matters within the precincts of the university, and accepting that any breach of this undertaking would entitle the senate to take appropriate disciplinary action, including suspension, exclusion or expulsion, was rejected by the council.
