“LINK IN CHAIN”
—G. K. Ferguson (National)
As a loyal citizen of New Zealand and subject of Her Majesty the Queen, I will strive to serve all sections of our community, irrespective of sectional interests without fear or favour.
As a strong advocate of private enterprise and competition, I will work to foster the spirit of individual effort and initiative which has for so long suffered from lack of encouragement in our community of Westland. In my public and private life I have seen and fought so much frustration and dispair, mainly created by a long period of inadequate representation and leadership of our entire community, particularly farming, forestry and mining. Westland has large reserves of coal and minerals, untapped farming and forestry potential and worldrenowned tourist attractions. While the National Government has done much to create incentives for development, lasting progress depends upon the enthusiasim and initiative of the people of Westland. No matter what the outcome of this election, I will never cease to strive to instill into people confidence in their future and their children’s future right here in Westland.
In the National Party I find representatives of all walks of life—trade unionists, farmers, professional men, technicians and public servants, men and women, who, as individuals, are united because of common ideas of personal freedom, they enjoy as members of a team.
It is into this atmosphere that I have been born, an individualist, but a link in a chain.
Westland will again progress when its member of Parliament has a place in the National Government team. I would be proud to lead Westland into its second golden century in the great liberal traditions of its first.
