WOMAN ATTACKED IN HOUSE
A young housewife was attacked by a young man in her home in Winters road early yesterday afternoon. Her son, woken by her screaming, also screamed as the intruder and his mother struggled in the passage.
The intruder eventually ran away. The woman telephoned the police, and a squad that included Detective SeniorSergeant E. T. Mitten and Detective Sergeant P. J. O’Donovan was at the house within minutes. A large party of policemen, with dogs and their handlers, combed the area, but could not find the young man.
The woman suffered shock and minor bruising, but did not have to go to hospital. Hearing noises about 12.45 p.m., the woman went into the passage and saw the intruder coming out of the room where her son was sleeping. He tried to throw a curtain over her head, and they struggled for several minutes. The woman screamed and pleaded with the intruder, and her son woke and joined his screams to his mother’s.
The police have the following description of the intruder:— Aged about 19, sft 7in, slim build, fresh complexion with clean-cut face, straight, dark-brown hair cut fairly short at the back and sides and parted on the left, and hazel eyes. He was wearing a pale-blue shirt open at the
neck, a dull, teal-coloured, v-neck, fisherman-knit pullover with two thin white stripes round the v, charcoal trousers, black shoes with no socks or light-coloured socks, and a medallion on a chain round his neck. Detective Senior-Sergeant Mitten asked that anyone able to give any information should get in touch with the C. 1.8. at the central police station.
