Playing with tremendous confidence, the Merseyside club crushed Leeds United, last season s runner-up, 6-0, on Saturday. to move to one point of the leader, Chelsea. It was Liverpool’s fourth successive win. Chelsea surprisingly surrendered a valuable home point when held to a 1-1 draw by Sheffield United. Also challenging strongly in the tightly-packed group at the top is Manchester United, the 1964-65 champion, whose talented team won 2-1 at Southampton. Chelsea has 24 points from 17 matches, Liverpool 23 from 17, Manchester United 23 from 17, and Stoke City 22 from 17. Six Goals Shared Last season's national Chatham Cup finalist, Western, drew 3-3 with Hungaria (Wellington) in an out-of-season friendly soccer match at Western Park on Saturday. Hungaria produced the closepassing, quick-thinking, fastmoving Continental style of footbail, and all three of its goals were superbly fashioned and completed. Western was a little fortunate to get away with a draw. One of its goals came from a deflection which caught the Hungarian goal-keeper going the wrong way and another from a disputed penalty decision for hands on the edge of the area. In the first half Hungaria played the better football and was th* fitter side. But Western, surprisingly, came more into the game after the interval and for a time matched Hungaria’s slide-rule football.
