DRIVER OUT FOR MONTH

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. The driver, P. Bertling, was suspended for a month after an inquiry into an accident involving Smokey Pointer and Tamoure about two furlongs from the finish of the Stewards’ Handicap at Alexandra Park on Saturday night. Smokey Pointer, driven by Bertling, broke a leg and was destroyed. Bertling was found guilty of careless driving. A report issued by the stipendiary committee said Smokey Pointer put his foot over the back bar of Tamoure’s sulky. Tamoure broke and Smokey Pointer fell. L. J. Bayer, the driver of Aka Eden, in the Auckland Handicap, was fined £lO for careless driving. It was found that Aka Eden had come off the rails approaching the home turn. Bill Hanover, which was trailng him, began to move through on the inside. Aka Eden then came back toward the rails, causing slight interference. Aka Eden won.
