B. Andrews Breaks Through Batting
First day: L.P. 232; St. A. 8/1. There was never much prospect of St. Albans avoiding defeat against Lancaster Park, but an attempt by the captain, S. C. Guillen, to win the compensation of bonus points made for an interesting morning's play.
Lancaster Park was well equipped to take advantage of the lively pitch. From a short run. Andrews made the ball swing and lift at a very lively pace and although J. W Burtt batted well for a while, Andrews was in command in a long spell which demonstrated his endurance as well as his skill. At the other end, the offs pinner B. C. Irving was also dangerous, but Guillen, with his flair for the unorthodox, ' as more than a match for him Guillen played a spectacular, attacking innings, once assuming the prone position, Kanhai fashion, after a powerful sweep. While Guillen scored briskly.
the yield from the other batsmen was almost negligible, and bonus points also w'ent to Lancaster Park.
After following on. St. Albans improved little on a pitch still helping the bowlers. B. R. Taylor, however, showed form for the first time, and he made some attractive front-foot strokes. Guillen again did well and a tall left-hander, J. S. Billcliff, was firm of stroke and purpose. Andrews had an analysis for the day of 11 for 49 from 29 overs and Lancaster Park won with ample time in hand.
Park missed some sharp catches in the second innings, but some good ones were taken during the day. A. E. Dunlop brought off a lovely diving legside catch to dismiss Taylor in the first innings, and A. C. Harrison caught Mills splendidly at short leg. Umpires: Messrs R. W. Hobbs and T. F. Mathie.
