Transalpine Line
The railway to the West Coast would be called the transalpine line the president of the South Island Publicity Association (Mr H. P. Smith) told the association's executive council in Christchurch. Improved railway facilities had been discussed with the Minister of Transport (Mr McAlpine) and he would look at some of the association’s suggestions. One he agreed with was the naming of the line to the West Coast. Other suggestions had included larger train windows, and support of improved designs for stations.
