TEACHERS’ SALARIES
Board Seeks Improvement
Urgent representations to try to improve conditions and salaries will be made to the national executive of the Secondary School Boards’ Association by the Shirley Boys’ High School board of governors.
At a meeting this week, members said the country was suffering because teachers were not being given enough opportunities and were not being paid enough.
The national executive should consider improving systems of grading, granting more study leave, improving career prospects as well as increasing salaries, the board said.
Copies of the resolution will also be sent to the Post-Pri-mary Teachers’ Association and the Christchurch Secondary Schools Council. The board will also write to the national executive of the Secondary School Boards’ Association to seek support for a system that will enable ’ high-graded headmasters to i accept positions as inspectors I without loss of salary.
