CLOTHES FOR LEPERS
Seven Bales Collected Seven bales of clothing, which include 890 hand-knit-ted jerseys, 333 scarves, 160 quilts, and about 1000 articles of used clothing, have been collected this year by the Christchurch area of the Mission to Lepers. The Christchurch area secretary (Miss M. G. Titheridge) said that the number of bales this year was slightly fewer than last year, although she expected to t&ceive more clothes as groups and organisations broke up for the year. “This year we have received a tremendous amount of handknitted goods,” she said, “most of the clothing has come from adult groups, although we have also had gifts from children.”
This year the clothing would be sent to India and Korea, said Miss Titheridge. In India it would be sent to Purulia, near Calcutta, the mission's largest home, where it would be stored in a shed built by missionaries. Later it would be sent to other homes. In Korea, the clothes would be distributed by members of the mission.
I “We are very grateful to j all the people who have given I clothes,” she said. “We j are especially grateful to I C.0.R.5.0. for the use of their facilities for baling."
