Education Board Building Programme Approved

Government approval for the Canterbury Education Board’s 1966-67 building programme was received yesterday.

It includes three new primary schools and an intermediate school in Christchurch, new occupation centres in Christchurch and Timaru, replacement of buildings at four country schools, and 115 additional classrooms. Provision for teachers’ housing includes a home for a married teacher, two hostels i for women teachers, two single teachers’ flats, and re- ! placement of three houses be- ' cause of age. I Also included are nine new ; dental clinics, many remodel- ! ling works, administration facilities, toilets, heating, and Isite purchases and developI ment.

Brief details are:— Christchurch And Suburbs Aorangi road, new occupation centre. Beckenham, new administration facilities.

Belfast, two additional classrooms, remodelling of fourclassroom block, and the extension of the present heating system.

Burwood, remodelling heating system. Central New Brighton, four classrooms and administration facilities. Cashmere, administration facilities, remodelling and extension of two detached classrooms.

Christchurch Cerebral Palsy, additional therapy room, staff toilets, storage, remodelling. Cotswold avenue, new school of six classrooms to open 1968 and a single unit dental clinic. Hoon Hay South, new school of six classrooms and single unit dental clinic. Lyttelton Main, two additional classrooms, remodelling of five-classroom block, cloaks and toilets, additional administration and new boiler house.

Lyttelton West, single-unit dental clinic.

North New Brighton, two additional classrooms, remodelling of six-classroom block.

Roydvale avenue, new school of six classrooms and double-unit dental clinic.

Russley, two additional classrooms.

Shirley Intermediate, three additional classrooms.

Spreydon, extension and remodelling of four detached rooms and the addition of toilets.

Spreydon Intermediate, a new intermediate school of 10 classrooms and 'pecialist rooms to be ere' on the site held in Hoon road to open in 1968. Sumner, three additional classrooms. West Spreydon, remodel and extend eight small classrooms and rebuild toilets, remodel heating. Mid-Canterbury, Banks Peninsula Arthur’s Pass, new residence. Chertsey, new school of three classrooms and single unit dental clinic, to replace the existing accommodation. Eiffelton, one additional classroom, remodelling of two existing rooms and improve-

ments to administration facilities. Fairton, one additional classroom, remodelling of two rooms, and administration facilities. Leeston, new double-unit dental clinic.

Lincoln, three additional classrooms, new administration wing, remodelling of existing administration to dental clinic, and new boiler house.

Mayfield, extension of classrooms and the provision of administration and storage facilities. Methven, new hostel for women teachers.

Rolleston, new headteacher’s residence.

Southbridge, new singleunit dental clinic. Tinwald, four new classrooms, administration facilities remodelled.
