Leading Softball Teams To Win
The leading teams—Richmond, Papanui, and Western Suburbs—should retain their positions after the seventh round of the Canterbury men’s softbaH championship today.
Richmond, one point ahead of its two leading rivals, will probably encounter most opposition when it meets Avon.
The latter did little to distinguish itself in the early rounds but a defeat of Papanui and a convincing slaughter of United have promised a return to its form of last season.
Against Papanui. the Avon batters found few problems with the Canterbury reserve pitcher, D. Chee, and blasted him off the mound before the end of the first innings. However, a similar happening to the representative pitcher, K. Smith (Richmond), is unlikely to occur today. At Hagley Park. Papanui and Western Suburbs should have little trouble in mastering United and Kaiapoi, respectively.
