Tiri Still Trying
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Nov. 18. Technicians in the Tiri were still trying tonight to transmit test broadcasts. The station is due to start broadcasting at 11 a.m. tomorrow, but no test transmissions were heard in Auckland up until a late hour tonight. Auckland staff of Radio Hauraki were alerted at 8.30 tonight to stand by for test broadcasts from the Tiri to start at 9 p.m.—but nothing was heard.
Tape-recorded material sufficient for six days programmes was taken from Auckland to the Tiri this afternoon. A message late tonight from the managing director of Radio Hauraki (Mr D. J. Gapes) on board the Tiri, said that the transmitter had broadcast a “carrier wave’’ during the day for half an hour.
“Can make no promises but believe me we are trying,” said the message.
