RANDOM REMINDER
ALL ROUNDERS
There is a very general acknowledgement of the splendid community service performed by the Y.W.C.A. But only a close examination of its activities reveals the full extent of its work. Its scope, indeed, is so wide that there must be some little danger of a member having to give up work to enjoy all the privileges available. Imagine some keen young girl who discovered that her interest in art could be developed by attending the Y.W.C.A. classes. It would be an absorbing Interest for her. But if she is something of an all-rounder, she might have to wrench herself away from her easel and brushes and get
away to her judo class. This would fit her admirably for her next appointment, ballroom dancing. ” she still felt the need to tone up the facial ana other muscles, off she would go to the keep nt class, hurrying away when it ended to get to her yoga class in time. It’s possible she would have to cut that a httle short and get back on her feet for her training in ballet, and if she “d enough energy when that class was over she could just find time for her fencing lessons. No time obviously, for such mundane things as earning a living at a typewriter. Not that the 60 girls at the Y W.C.A- hostel are as over-enthusiastic as that. But they appreciate, no
doubt, the work that is being done for them and for others. There are clubs for young girls, young marrieds, professional women, and older women. And the association is raising money, through its world fellowship group, to help the World Y.W.C.A. run refugee camps and vocational training projects; there is also a plan to support two members of a relief team in Vietnam. Almost as asides, the association runs leadership training classes, and camps. Little wonder, then, that the Y.W.C.A. is hoping today's street appeal will be a success. It needs money to continue its community work. It deserves to get it It’s simply a matter of you, and, oh yes, me.
