EXPORTS TO AMERICA
“Quality, Price Important’’
(N.Z. Press Association)
AUCKLAND, Nov. 1!
The New Zealand Trade Commissioner to Los Angeles, Mr R. J. Inglis, arrived in Auckland today with a call to exporters and manufacturers for greater productivity.
“You can sell almost anything in America,” he said, "providing the quality is good and the prices competitive. “One of our biggest problems is to try to bring our prices into line with those of other overseas exporters and local American sources. “With an increase in Industry and industrial productivity we should be able to close the margin, but progress is slow.”
In particular. New Zealand exporters and manufacturers needed to look closely at packaging standards and quality.
“We have had some unfortunate happenings in the past with shipments of products which have got through and which quite clearly have not been inspected closely. And they were rejected by the Americans. This must not be allowed to continue, for the word spreads very quickly, even though it is a big country.”
