Little Price Change In Napier Wool

(New Zealand Press Association!

NAPIER, November 11.

The wool market at Napier today, compared with the recent Christchurch sale, was in sellers’ favour for extra fine crossbreds and generally unchanged, although at times inclined to be erratic, for medium and coarse fleece, says the report of the Hawke’s Bay Woolbrokers’ Association.

Oddments values were also on a par with recent sales, but second shear and early shorn were very firm. A total of 29,791 bales of greasy wool was offered to a full and representative bench of buyers. From Hawke’s Bay, Gisborne, East Coast, and Taupo districts, the wool was mainly hogget fleece, with a reasonable quantity of ewe wool and a small proportion of early shorn, as well as the usual percentage of bellies and pieces.

Fleece wools generally were well up to the usual standard. Dust was much less prevalent, but pen-stain was more in evidence.

Competition came mainly from continental interests, with support from Japan and Eastern Europe, particularly on extra fine hogget fleece. Bradford was not prominent.
