DUTIES Are to carry out field surveys in sheep and beef cattle on aspects influencing the production of meat and wool, and to participate in a performance recording scheme in beef cattle. The successful applicant will be stationed in Christchurch and will be responsible for work in the main sheep farming areas in the South Island. QUALIFICATIONS A degree in Veterinary Science or Agriculture. Sound practical experience with sheep and beef cattle is essential and professional experience on animal production work is desirable. U THE COMMISSION is offering, from 1967, a number of study awards to students taking the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of Commerce and Administration degrees in Economics at any university. These awards will enable students to attend university on a full-time basis.

Students must have completed at least one year of the course. Awards are continued annually until the degree is completed provided that satisfactory progress is maintained. Successful applicants will be bonded to the Public Service for the same number of years for which assistance has been granted. They will be attached to a department from the outset and will resume duty with that department during long vacation. ALLOWANCES A standard allowance of £l5O for each academic year is payable with any university bursaries or supplementary bursaries and with junior or national scholarships. Nine-tenths of the composite university fee will be paid on behalf of the bursar. The remaining one-tenth and the students’ association fee are paid by the bursar. Boarding allowance where applicable for fees and allowances bursaries will be paid by the Department of Education. A bursar who is not eligible for a boarding allowance from the Department of Education may, if living away from home, be paid a boarding allowance of £lOO each academic year. A married student will be paid an allowance of £175 a year in addition to other allowances, but this allowance will be reduced by the amount of any boarding allowance received.
