VISCOUNT FAULT

Plane Reduces Height

A National Airways Corporation Viscount, flying from Auckland to Christchurch yesterday, reduced height because of a partial loss of pressurisation in the cabin, said the corporation’s Christchurch manager (Mr J. E. Davies) last evening. The cause of the defect had not yet been ascertained, but the Viscount had been grounded and sent to the maintenance department for inspection, he added. It was on flight 403. After the fault developed the aircraft flew at 16,000 ft. Normally Viscounts flew at between 19,000 ft and 20,000 ft. The plane left Auckland at 12.10 p.m., and because of head winds was a few minutes late, arriving at Christchurch at 2.15 p.m. No time was lost because of the descent.
