Insurance Doubts
(N.Z. Press Association) . AUCKLAND, November 11. Mr D. J. Gapes, managing director of Radio Hauraki, said today that he would investigate the insurance position of the Tiri as soon as possible.
The vessel was insured through Lloyds’ of London for between £6OOO and £7OOO. “But to be quite honest, I don’t know what the position is at the moment,” he said.
An Auckland marine insurance expert said the validity of the Lloyds* policy would depend largely on whether the
marine survey had been written into it.
He said: “If the policy was made subject to a current survey and she sailed without it then it would invalidate the policy.
“If, on the other hand, the policy was issued without mention to the survey, the policy would be valid.” Another insurance expert said claims from life insurances on crew members of the Tiri would be met in spite of the fact that the vessel had no seaworthiness certificate.
