Trading Opens Week In Low Gear
Trading was in low gear as New Zealand stock exchanges opened for the week. Turn-overs were very low and the range of issues narrow. In the New Zealand list falls outnumbered rises two-to-one; the Australian section firmed. Most moves were small.
A rise of 2s 6d—on record profit news—by Skellerup Industries was the highlight of the market. Consolidated Plastics, at 225, and Manthel Holdings at 19s, each rose 6d. Gains of 3d were made by Rothmans, at 23s 9d, and Transport Nelson, at 9s 3d. -*
The biggest falls were by Bonds Hosiery, down Is at 12s, and P.T.Y. Industries Is 6d lower at 13s, the latter on take-over news. KaiapoiPetone, at 4s 7d, and McKendricks, at 7s 7d, each down Id, were other textiles which eased. Dominion Breweries lost 2d to 15s 6d and United Empire Box eased Id to 9s lid.
