ELECTORATE PROGRESS

—J. R. Dawson (National) As National Party candidate for Avon it has given me great satisfaction to cover the electorate and to see the progress made here in the last 17 years of pre-dominantly National administration. This same Government, probably the most able the country has ever known, will enable this electorate to continue its remarkable development. Within the boundaries of Avon we have growing industries, some substantial, some

smaller, some public companies, some the personal achievements of energetic and intelligent New Zealanders starting on their own from scratch. I have found good management, good employees and good relationships.

We enjoy the prosperity Saturday shopping brings. The rapidly-growing residential areas, which are now finding work offering near at hand, have, too, the amenities of miles of beach, estuary, Queen Elizabeth II Park and golf courses. Houses are going up and gardens going down: healthy children are within a mile or two of the sea.

“Annoyance” The presence of the sewage treatment plant in the electorate is at times a source of annoyance in part of the district. A solution to this problem must be possible, and it is a proper thing for the people of Aranui in particular to press, with the support of all of us interested in the electorate, for further investigation and remedy. It would be a privilege to represent Avon politically, to become more familiar with its needs, help iron out the difficulties naturally associated with growth, where necessary make an informed case to the Government, and to see that the energy and industry of the electorate can continue its present development towards being one of the most balanced communities in the country.
