Tobias Draws Crowd

Tobias, one of the leading contenders for New Zealand Cup honours tomorrow, attracted tremendous interest when he was worked at Addington Raceway yesterday morning. He was set a very easy task, but fairly revelled in it. He looks in great heart and will strip a very fit runner for the big race tomorrow. The work was done from 12 to 20 feet from the rails on a track which was sloppy on top after rain during the previous 48 hours. In spite of drizzle more than 2000 persons watched.

Prospector went away from the two-mile post in front of

Fort Worth, Tobias and Kildare Dan. They had little pace on until the last half-mile and took smin 2sec for the full distance. They recorded Imin 4 2-ssec for the final four furlongs, and 30 2-ssec for the last quarter. Tobias finished half a length in front of Kildare Dan. Full Sovereign and Grande Garnison were together at the end of 12 furlongs in 3min 30 3-ssec. They sped over the last half-mile in Imin 3 4-ssec, and the final quarter in 29 4-5 sec. It was a sound run by both horses. Doctor Barry started some distance behind Quality Inn in a run over 12 furlongs. They finished together, with Doctor Barry pacing easily, after recording 3min 18 3-ssec, the last half-mile in Imin 4 l-ssec, and the final quarter in 32sec. J. D. Litten has Doctor Barry looking in great order. Phillmark went over the same distance on her own in 3min 27 3-ssec, the last halfmile in Imin 6 4-ssec, and the last quarter In 32 3-ssec. She looks close to her best once more.

Break Through was much too good for Del Reno, Phenoma and Kelvin Groove at the end of two miles in 4min 44 2-ssec, the last half-mile in Imin 6 2-5

sec, and the final quarter In 30 3-ssec. Break Through will only have to begin cleanly to take beating in his engagements at the meeting. Chequer Board was going easily throughout two miles in company with Thunderina in 4min 51 l-ssec, the last halfmile in Imin 9 2-ssec, and the final quarter in 35sec. Chequer Board, driven by his race driver, J. A. Carmichael, looks ready to win at short notice. Carefree was going easily throughout 12 furlongs in 3min 25 4-ssec, the last half-mile in Imin 3 4-ssec, and the final quarter in 31 4-ssec. Carefree could surprise in the Addington Handicap tomorrow. Bright Highland and Towser completed their work by recording Imin 7sec for half a mile, the final quarter in 32 3-ssec. Towser looks to have freshened up well and he could pay expenses at the meeting. Rocky Star was going better than Richard Hanover at the end of a solid work-out. They took 31 3-ssec for their final quarter. Robin Dundee was let oft with several rounds of cantering on the lead behind Nigger Minstrel. She looks ready to be one of the star performers at the meeting.
