JOHNNY GEE: Meets most of his rivals under adverse handicaps under these conditions. However, should be prominent. MIGHTY CHIEF: Good enough to win, but has shown best form as a stayer. If he gets over first furlong smoothly, could take beating. POUPETTE: Looked well when she finished seventh st Forbury Park. Has raced well at trials since then and could be prominent. QUEEN'S CORD: No danger at Kaikoura, but could do better in this field. TRONSO: Appeals more as a stayer than a sprinter. CASTLETON’S GIFT: Rapidlv returning to best form. Trotted well for fourth behind Johnny Gee on October 26 and might surprise. FORWARD MARCH: Appeals most of horses behind the limit. Has finished third at last three starts and won easily at trials. SCOTLEIGH: Has trotted well in Auckland this season. Might do better over more ground later at meeting. TOWSER: Fine sprinter back to peak after minor set-back. With favourable run could figure in finish. UTEENA: Wetfk form background. HARBOUR LIGHT: One of best sprinting trotters in commission. Can’t be left out of calculations in spite of disappointing racing so far this season. WHEN: Bracketed with Asia Minor. Fine sprinter certain to go well.

NIGGER MINSTREL: Little appeal, although working LIGHT: Two impressive wins in recent weeks and cannot be left out of calculations. ROCKY STAR: Must be considered after outstanding run at trials. Can race anywhere in a field and will have only to begin cleanly to go close to winning. TUTTA TRYAX: One of the top three-year-olds in Auckland last term. Is fine stayer not without sound chance. ADMIRE: Rather unlucky secon to Landlord at Forbury. Is racing most generously and looks capable of an early win. BRIGHT HIGHLAND: Seldom guilty of running a bad race. Latest failure was in Methven Cup. Fair run at trials and could be placed. BUCHANAN: Runaway winning after slow start on October 26. Penalty of 12 yards shouldn’t stop him getting into finish. CHEQUER BOARD: Brilliant but unreliable northerner. Won over 11 furlongs at a 2min 4sec rate on October 24 at Auckland. Repeat effort would give him great chance. LYNDHURST: Right out of form at present and cannot be recommended. SMOKE SCREEN: No appeal. VIKING WATER: Fair form in Auckland, but broke and pulled up at latest start. Looks to be very fit and might show up. WENDY DAWN: Fair run at lone start this term. Might need further racing. BELLAJILY: Earned respect after bold showing at trials. However, if pace strong throughout, might be struggling at finish. GOLDEN ORIOLE: Disappointing fifth behind Cuddle Doon on October 26. Might redeem herself in this race.

HAPPY ENDING: Racing rather disappointingly lately. Only fair sixth at trials on Wednesday. SPACE CADET: Racing poorly. Little appeal. Racing fairly well this season and might surprise. DON CAESAR: Fourth behind Powerful Light when making a fresh start. Won well at trials and could again take beating. GAYLEE: Went fair race for fourth at Forbury Park on October 15. Has useful speed, but will have to be, taken on trust in this class. HAL'S DELIGHT: Little appeal. INKY BOY: Poor run when fourth behind Powerful Light last time out. Should be better suited by this distance and could win. LIGHT SILK: Failed at Hutt Park on Saturday. Previous form of a high standard. ON PROBATION: Two sound races at only starts this season. Fair sixth at trials and could be at improving stage. RAVEN SONG: Showed gameness to win at Oamaru when having second start for season. Could again be prominent. THUNDERINA: Good second to Powerful Light on October 26 following on a narrow win over two miles at Oamaru four days earlier. Failed at trials, but looks capable of another bold showing. ULOVE: Only fair efforts this season. Looks very well and might surprise. VANTAGE: Peak run would give him a winning chance. Looks well and after sound run at trials will be in demand. DRYDEN SMOKE: Finished strongly for fifth in sprint on October 26, an effort which gives him better than an outside chance. LOYAL LIGHT: Won well at trials and could be on way back to best form. MY WORD: Will find this class rather rich after disappointing run in Waikouaiti Cup. NOCATCHEM: Good third behind Atanui on October 26, adding to already fine re- , cord this season. Certain to be one of hardest to beat. QUALITY INN: Good race for fourth from 36 yards in

Kaikoura Cup on Monday. Looks more favourably placed in this field and could show up. RICHARD HANOVER: Racing most generously at the moment, although would be preferred over longer distance. ROYDON PRINCE: Finished strongly for fourth at trials. Looks to be returning to peak form and should be capable of a bold showing. SCOTCH CHERIE: Failed in two starts this season. Showed ability at times last term and could be an improver. SHADYDALE: Making fresh start. Only fair run at trials and could need race. SPRY: Useful form at recent Greymouth meeting. Capable sprinter and may show up. TRYOUT: Certain to have benefitted from two starts at Oamaru last month. Form last term was good enough to give him a rough chance. ULIGHT: Does not appeal over this distance, although in good order at present. WHY NOT: Weak form background and makes little appeal.
