MARKET IN LONDON
Prices Drift Downward (Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, Nov. 3. A downward drift in share prices continued on stock markets in Britain this week, and at mid-day yesterday the “Financial Times” index was a further 0.8 down at yet another “low” for the year of 290.8. Conditions continued to be affected by uncertainty about the economic outlook and the flow of depressing news from industry, observers said. Oils, however, were in good form on hopes of news about further North Sea discoveries, and gilt-edged were also back in favour with gains of up to 7s 6d. Fixed interest stocks were looking better. Banks moved ahead on further consideration of this week’s announcement by the Bank of England that there was cash available for loans.
