HERMITAGE MOTEL
Plan Approved By Govt (N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, Nov. 4. The Government has approved the building of a Tourist Hotel Corporation motel at The Hermitage. The motel will cater for 84 guests. The Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) said building a motel was a departure for the corporation, as it would be building to a slightly lower standard than for its hotels. The new motel, however, would assist families to enjoy New Zealand’s finest alpine scenery. The Canterbury Chamber of Commerce welcomed the announcement by the Prime Minister of Government approval of a Tourist Hotel Corporation motel at the Hermitage, the president (Mr R. E. Smith) said. The South Island had certain key points for tourists and the Hermitage was one of the most important “Many of our tourists will be North Island families who require good accommodation at a reasonable price such as will be provided by these motels,” said Mr Smith. “At the same time we need more accommodation for overseas tourists at other points and it is hoped that a similar announcement will soon be made on the corporation’s plan for rebuilding its hotel at Queenstown,” said Mr Smith.
